RTM District #9 Rep Dru Georgiadis Announces Bid for State House District #132
April 1, 2016
On April 1, 2016, Fairfield’s 9th District RTM Representative, Dru Georgiadis, announced her intention to run for the Connecticut State House of Representatives in Fairfield’s 132nd State House district.
In a statement, Ms Georgiadis said, “I am running for State Representative in Fairfield because I genuinely care about people and finding real solutions to the problems facing our families. As a community leader and mother of triplets, I have learned that only through hard work, advocacy and commitment can we make real change. Connecticut has some immense challenges to overcome in the years ahead. In my years as a community volunteer and RTM member, I have earned a reputation for working across party lines to do what’s right for our families. That’s exactly the approach I’ll take to Hartford.”
In the CT House, Dru’s priorities will include developing and passing fiscally responsible budgets that protect our priorities, including education, job creation, infrastructure, public safety, our veterans and healthcare without putting undue financial burdens on working families and taxpayers.
As a mother and multiple year PTA board member, Dru knows that Fairfield’s schools are the cornerstone of our community. Dru believes that with the help of essential state funds, we must support and develop an education system that encourages parents, teachers, administrators, civic leaders and business leaders to work together to develop curricula that prepare our students for today’s global economy.
In the Connecticut House of Representatives, one of Dru’s top priorities will be to support working families by maintaining current levels of investment in Connecticut’s economic infrastructure,
including roads, highways, light rail, broadband internet, worker training and education.
As your State Representative, Dru Georgiadis will continue her staunch support for a woman’s right to make her own healthcare choices and will advocate for efforts to provide quality, affordable healthcare to Connecticut’s working and self employed families. We have all seen the devastation caused by drug addiction. Dru supports recent efforts to curb the epidemic in opioid abuse and over prescribing by providing uniform standards for insurance coverage and substance-abuse treatment, strengthening prescription-drug monitoring and strengthening penalties for possession and distribution of opioids.
Dru and her husband, Martin, have lived in Fairfield for 25 years. They are the proud parents of four sons, all graduates of Fairfield public schools whose triplets are currently freshmen in college. Dru is a past recipient of the Sherman PTA Volunteer of the Year Award and has served on the Board of Directors for the Patterson Club and the Fairfield Garden Club. Dru worked for Time Inc., the Hearst Corp. and Condé Nast and has a B.A. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
